H.H. the Sakya Trichen

His Holiness the Sakya Trichen (41st Sakya Trizin) is a highly revered non-sectarian master who re-established the Sakya tradition in India and transmitted the complete teachings to his son, the current 42nd throne holder.

His Holiness the Sakya Trichen, born in 1945 as the 41st Sakya Trizin, is one of the most revered masters of Tibetan Buddhism and father of the current 42nd throne holder. Born with extraordinary auspicious signs and recognized as the reincarnation of the great tertön Orgyen Thrinley Lingpa, he received extensive training from his father and root guru before being enthroned at age fourteen in 1959, the same year he left Tibet for India. In India, he established the foundation for preserving the Sakya tradition by founding Sakya Monastery, Sakya College, and Sakya Institute, ensuring the continuation of rigorous Buddhist education and practice. Renowned as a non-sectarian master who has received and transmitted teachings from all four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, His Holiness is celebrated for his profound scholarship, eloquent teachings, and ability to instruct disciples according to their individual capacities. Having transmitted the complete Lamdré and other precious teachings to his sons and countless disciples worldwide, he ensured the continuation of the unbroken Khön family lineage before passing the throne to his eldest son, His Holiness Ratna Vajra Rinpoche, in 2017, after which he became known as His Holiness the Sakya Trichen.
